On May 6, a cultural evening will take place at Tartu Loodusmaja, focusing on introducing Japanese tea culture.
In Japan, tea is more than just a hot drink. It is a significant ritual that has a lot of meaning within the history and culture of Japan. The tea ceremony represents purity, tranquillity, respect and harmony and a lot of preparation goes into this important event. During the culture evening, you will have the opportunity to take part in a tea demonstration and learn how to make and drink Japanese matcha tea. The event will be held in English.
Programme
17:00 introduction of the tea ceremony and Japanese matcha tea demonstration by Ms Chisato Ohtsuka
18:00 snacks and drinks for all participants, presentation about Japanese tea culture and traditions, film screening, quiz and discussion
The event will end approximately at 21:00.
Registration
Everybody is welcome, regardless of age, but registration is required. Together with the matcha tea demonstration starting at 17.00, the participation fee for the event is 7 euros. When joining the event at 18.00, the participation fee is 5 euros. Payment can be made on site.
To register, please send an e-mail to sirli.urbas@ut.ee and write the names of those who wish to participate and the time of the event (either at 17.00 or at 18.00). The number of seats is limited. If the group is completed, we will send you an e-mail to let you know that you are on the waiting list. The registration deadline is 4 May 2022.
