Asia Centre’s meeting with the Japanese Ambassador to Estonia was successful

On 28 October, employees of the University of Tartu Asia Centre met with Hajime Kitaoka, Ambassador of Japan to Estonia, and Toshifumi Ito, Second Secretary at the Embassy. The Japanese-related activities of both the Asia Centre and the University of Tartu were discussed during the meeting. The teaching and research work related to Japan were discussed at length, including the master's degree programme Contemporary Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, and the book project on the history of Estonian-Japanese relations. The Centre is pleased that the common belief in research and cooperation has paved the way for a strong partnership.

On behalf of the University of Tartu Asia Centre, the meeting was attended by the Head of Centre Elo Süld, the Coordinator of Japan and the Programme Director of the MA curriculum Contemporary Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Eva Liias and the Junior Research Fellow of the Institute of Social Studies and scholar of Japanese culture Ene Selart.
