Lunar New Year celebrations in Tartu

Friday, on the 16th of Feburary at 20.00 in the Town Hall: FA Schola presents traditional and ancient Chinese melodies

Janno Mäe – bells and percussion instruments

Ticets are 10 euros and are available before the cocnert begins.

FA Concerto on traditsioonilisi hiina uusaastakontserte korraldanud juba 18 aastat. Lisaks muusikale on aastate jooksul korraldatud hiina sügavamat kultuuritausta avavaid loenguid, tutvustatud kokakunsti, kalligraafiat, tantse ning võitluskunste. Lisaks Tartule ja Tallinnale on jõutud veel paljudesse teistessegi Eesti linnadesse.

Meie eesmärgiks ei ole olnud asendada meile tavapäraseid uusaastatraditsioone Kaug-Ida uusaasta aja ja kommetega; oleme püüdnud kasutada Kaug-Ida uusaastat (mis on tänapäevani tähtsaim püha Hiinas) justkui aknana, mille kaudu võime heita pilgu Kaug-Ida, eelkõige aga hiina kultuuri väga rikkasse ja värviküllasesse pärandisse. Tähelepanu keskmes on alati olnud varasem klassikaline muusika ja kultuur laiemalt.

Kutsume kõiki ka sel aastal koos meiega ette võtma väikest rännakut iidsesse hiina muusikakultuuri ja osa saama hiina traditsiooniliste pillide lummavast kõlast.

On Saturday, on the 17th of Februrary at 17.00, the International Student Ambassadors and International House Tartu invite all to the Lunar New Year in Vietnam festival

Together with Vietnamese students, we bring you the distinctive festival spirits of Vietnamese people during their New Year.

In the event, we will introduce to you the origin of the festival, traditional customs, food, and festive activities of Vietnamese people. You will have a unique opportunity to taste some Vietnamese food, play Vietnamese traditional games, receive Vietnamese lucky words, and join a Vietnamese dance.

The event program* is as follows.

17.00 – 17.10: Opening
17.10 – 17.30: Presentation on Vietnamese Lunar New Year
17.30 – 18.00: Workshops (Calligraphy, Traditional Games, Charity)
18.00 – 18.45: Vietnamese Bamboo Dance
18.45 – 19.00: Quiz and Closing

On the 17th of Februrary, Chinese New Year is also celebrated on the Freedom Square in Tallinn.

It is the 9th year that the Happy Chinese New Year Celebrations is held in Tallinn. Dancers, musicians and artists from Beijing will once again perform traditional Chinese music, dance, martial arts, acrobatics, etc. A photo exhibition will be organized at the corner of the square. An ice sculpture of Dog will be made and erected. Some of intangible cultural heritages will be demonstrated at the event. Don't miss the chance to taste some delicious Chinese food at the stalls. Like always, the firework display will light the sky after the show. We kindly remind you of keeping warm as the event is held outdoors.

ca 17.30:  Fireworks display to celebrate the new year
