It is time to introduce Anastasia Sinitsyna who joined Asia Centre's team as a research fellow in September.
My background relies on quantitative economics research, particularly with a focus on migration and integration-related issues. Being an economist, I value the strength and huge volume of Asian markets, and I believe the rise of Asia will continue. We, as researchers, cannot ignore such importance. I have never been to any Asian countries, but I strongly feel that it is a completely new world in terms of culture and traditions.
Currently, together with our team, I am researching the economic and social impact of Asian migration to Nordic-Baltic countries. In particular, I would like to learn more about labor market disparities across various migrant groups originating from Asian countries. With whom do Asian migrants live, and with whom do they work? And most importantly, why so? In my plans I would like to go deeper into remittances in and outflows across Baltic-Nordic- Asian regions and what factors might intensify or challenge the remittances flows.
I would say that the most important point is to try to learn something new from Asian cultural practices. Try to explore new tastes, and get new movies or music experiences. Or even learn a few words in Japanese. Maybe someday you will use it!
